It was my first Logitech Harmony universal remote.Let me say that I have not even a single complaint with this item. If you would look at my living room before I got this device, I looked like a wholesale street peddler for remotes. It was quite embarrassing when guests would arrive and see that I have 8-9 remotes all stacked up around me. I had tried my luck with the non-intelligent universal remotes in the past (the Radio Shack brand ones) and it was a hassle to get my remote setup with the devices I wanted. It was a further continuous battle with the remote to control each device and switch the remote between the different modes. It is much easier to have 5 remotes around you than it is to fumble with a single remote to try to perform basic tasks. I had also tried the feature you get on DVD and TV remotes where you can configure it for additional devices. I had the same... I had some apprehension about it but went ahead and pulled the trigger on it when it was on sale. Boy, I wish I had done it sooner. This remote was STUPID easy to set up. I am not the most "tech savy" guy in the world. Average maybe, and definetly impatient when it comes to frustrating set ups and use on modern electronics. This remote is amazingly simple to use. I encountered no issues setting it up. Probably because I avoided high internet server traffic by choosing to do my set up at 4:00 am. Most complaints I read had to do with people trying to set it up during high traffic times (ie: the day after Christmas..lol). Sync issue only caught me once, and I simply had to reset the website (which took about five seconds) and WHAMMO... The reports I read about slow operation of devices I also have not experienced. It is as fast as my factory remotes. Range and direction pointing is less... First the good... The screen is nice and useful. The buttons have a good feel to them. The shape feels good in hand. Rechargability is a major bonus. The bad... Cheap feeling. Hollow, plasticky and the battery door fits poorly (loose). Poor IR signal power/dispersion. This is the biggest problem compared to the 550. I could point the 550 in the general direction of my TV/components and it would have no problem getting a signal to everything. The 700 is a major downgrade in this way... it must be pointed DIRECTLY at what you are trying to control which is a problem if your TV and components are a few feet apart as mine are. Freshly charged batteries make no difference. Pretty... Read more |
